There
are people who do not really want to accept any kind of favour offered to them by
people though they often come without any condition. We all are aware of the
values of ‘Dignity of Labour’. However, I feel we should look at how those
things come to us. Let us think about the reason and purpose behind every
favour, before we reject them altogether.
However
having said that, let me be very clear about this. I am not talking about some irrelevant
stuffs offered to us, those which has nothing to do with us. Rather, they come
with a selfish motive, by which the giver expects something in return, and not
actually doing us a favour. Well, in that case we have every right to deny or
accept it. That depends on person to person. I have no liberty to comment on
that.
Now
let us get to the main point (of what I have to say). In relation to that, I
would like to share some few experiences. I have come across people who
considers them very different from the rest of us, and who thinks they are from
a completely different dimension than ours. I guess for them life is completely
under their control. This is just my perspective about them, though I (strangely)
belief it to be true.
We
are all independent individuals to a certain extent, who knows what is best for
us. I guess we might say we are the rulers over our own worlds. We think we
control almost everything that has to do with our lives. If we really want to do
something we want, it’s up to us whether to do it or not; right away or some
time later…etc. We think we are in complete control of things around us.
However,
lately, I have been studying about this, and have concluded that we are rulers
without having any control over our lives. How does that go with you? There are
certain things in life that are beyond our comprehension and above our dimensions.
Let me bring in a simple example. You may be smarter, brighter, more intelligent,
and have a higher IQ than your average friend. Nevertheless, there are certain
things/qualities in him/her which none of these can let you acquire those.
There comes the need for help. It is because of this very shortcoming that God
made friends.
Maybe
it is because of your self-confidence, and above reproach attitude that is
blinding you from seeing the need of guidance from an average friend. While
he/she is trying to help you out, by doing a favour without any condition just
for your sake, you depend on your intelligence, and thinks it is irrelevant
just because it is not important at this point of time.
It
is such friends that make us aware of certain things that we are missing out
while we are busy engaged in ruling over our life. Among these friends, some may
be our closest friend, some casual, while some just acquaintances; that do us a
favour by reminding that there are crucial and important things in your life
that needs your attention more than what you are facing right now, and asks you
whether you have them with you. Mind you, sometimes these favours come very
quietly without you really knowing them, while some come during your most
uncomfortable moment. Many of these favours often come with a silent yet fervent
prayer with absolutely no strings attached just for you!
I have
personally experienced being turned down during certain occasions while doing
such things. I have no regrets concerning about the time and effort spent on
trying. However, what I do regret is their ignorance or may be even their
indifference. I am mindful of their freedom of choice and personal reasons. I
know I cannot interfere into their lives. All I can do is to wait for a transformation,
and have empathy upon them after I have done everything I could do as a friend.
Now,
if anyone of you has received and turned down such an offer as that, I appeal to
you, go back to your friend and ask the favour again, and I am sure he/she will
not remain defiant to your supplication. This is also for those of you who have
thoughtfully tried to help your friend but is on the verge of dejection. Be
glad, at least you tried. Continue to strive to achieve what your heart leads
and in the end, you will reap the harvest of your persistent dedication and
succour.
P.S. I know it's a little awkward to finish this way. I just wanted to finish it fast...for you guys. But I hope something must have surely struck you (Well, not that mischievous lizard from the ceiling top again)!
Feel free to drop in your invaluable comments.
